If it comes as a surprise to you that Colorado is a state that loves live music, then it’s safe to say that you’ve sorely been missing out. While Denver may be the place to go for large, arena-touring acts, small towns across the state host loads of both local and national acts. And, summer is music festival season across the entire state of Colorado as the Rocky Mountains serve as the perfect backdrop to hours of music that’s complimented by famously sunny days. Breckenridge, Colorado’s favorite ski town, is certainly no exception. So, exactly what will the music lover in you want to check out during your next trip? Let’s start just by scratching the surface:

The Bar Scene: If you’ve walked down Breckenridge’s Main Street, you know one thing for certain: the town has no shortage of entertainment options.

  • The local’s favorite bar, Sherpa and Yeti’s, has brought the likes of the Yonder Mountain String Band and Umphrey’s McGee to the high country. Smack dab on Main Street, you’re guaranteed to find a stellar live music calendar that includes rock, bluegrass, funk, and hip hop at this venue. Plus, Sherpa and Yeti’s boasts a local musicians’ night as well.
  • Salt Creek (on East Lincoln) pleases a normally younger crowd with a large dance floor and live music. Their pitcher and wing specials bring in the crowds and make Salt Creek certainly worth your while if you’ve strapped on your dancing shoes.
  • If you’re more into the DJ scene, stop by Cecilia’s Bar on Main Street for music and martinis. Or, head to the Liquid Lounge, a quick hop, skip, and a jump from Cecelia’s. Simply plan an evening of strolling Main Street in your agenda and you’re sure to wind up finding your perfect spot.

Mountain Music: There is perhaps no better place to catch a live act than the Breckenridge Ski Resort. Each year, the mountain throws a huge party during Spring Massive, featuring live music right at the base of the slopes. Combined with the Spring Massive Beer Fest and A Bite of Breckenridge, live music certainly draws the crowd. With past lineups that have included acts such as Robert Randolph, The Subdudes, and Tony Furtado, it’s easy to understand the draw. What could be better than a full day of spring skiing followed by an evening of stellar music, all with the backdrop of the Breckenridge Ski Resort?

Festival Madness: Each summer, the town of Breckenridge opens its arms to The Breckenridge Music Festival, a series of presentations that range from jazz, blues, classical symphony, and rock and roll. A few options for music lovers include:

  • The Champagne Series. From mid-July through mid-August, local residents open their homes to intimate orchestral performances that get started with a reception and end with dessert. You’ll find simply wonderful music in the middle.
  • The Blue River Series. Hanging out along the Blue River is the place you’ll want to be during the summer as national acts fill the mountain air with sounds of funk, jazz, rock, and more.
  • The Riverwalk Center. An amphitheater right in the heart of Breckenridge, at the Riverwalk Center, is where the magic happens when it comes to orchestral sounds. With stars twinkling in the sky, mountain memories are easy to come by on nights when the orchestra is in town. The Breckenridge Music Festival hosts both a summer and winter series.

Regardless of the season of your visit, you’re ears will certainly find delight during your Breckenridge stay. Choose your Breckenridge vacation homes so that you’re positioned right in town amidst all of the action, and be sure to pack your dancing shoes. Get to Breckenridge. The music is calling.
