The Anticipation of a New Season in Breckenridge
As the aspen trees color the Rocky Mountains with their vibrant gold announcement of fall, there is usually one common place where Breckenridge visitors and residents turn their eyes: the mountains. September and October might still technically be considered fall, but they are also months that fill winter enthusiasts with excitement in the anticipation of yet another ski season. If you share in this eagerness, you can rest assured. Breckenridge has lots in store for a new season of fun and adventure.
Breckenridge's Ten Mile Range is certainly the hotspot for winter activity in Summit County. Thirty chair lifts carry thousands of people each hour to four peaks on this world-class ski resort. And, while the more than 2,000 acres of terrain might mean skiing and boarding reign supreme on the mountain, there are plenty of other winter activities to keep you busy in Breckenridge.
Snowshoeing is certainly a popular and fun activity that takes little preparation. You can literally walk right outside of your Breckenridge vacation rental and find trails of fresh powder that are perfect for snowshoeing. Additionally, the Breckenridge and Frisco Nordic Centers offer day, night, and private snowshoe tours, along with pristine trails for wondering on your own. The Breckenridge Nordic Center also offers cross country skiing less than one mile from downtown, accessible from the free shuttle. But winter activities certainly don't end there. Snowmobiling, ice skating, and dog sledding are all popular in the winter months in Breckenridge, and each lets you leave your poles at home.
Another reason to get excited about a new winter season is Breckenridge is the celebration itself. Known as a town that likes to party, Breckenridge is the host to a slew of annual events. Whether you're in town for the traditional Lighting of Breckenridge, the International Snow Sculpture Championships, or the Mardi Gras celebration, you are sure to have a good time. But, you don't always need a specific reason to head to Main Street. After all, Main Street is an event all in itself. Packed with boutiques, art galleries, and novelty shops, Main Street shopping has been known to become a sport all in itself. And, you certainly won't go hungry from the workout. Restaurants abound Main Street, offering an array of options ranging from quaint bakeries to a two-million pound floating replica of a one of the largest dredges.
If you're looking for entertainment, Breckenridge will certainly show you a good time. The second Wednesday of each month is known as High Country Comedy Night at the Park Avenue Pub. And, of course, there are plenty of bars where you can wet your whistle any night of the week. Whether you're up for a specialty martini at the Blue River Bistro or a beer at the Gold Pan Saloon, you won't go thirsty in Breckenridge. If live music is more your scene, an assortment of bars and clubs feature both local and national acts. Of course, one of the best things about Breckenridge is the care-free lifestyle. You won't have to worry about driving because the town's free shuttle is easily accessible from most Breckenridge accommodations.
Should you need a day off from the slopes and outdoor activity in general, Breckenridge still has you covered. You can pick from a spa treatment, a mine tour, or a historic visit to the Barney Ford House Museum.
One thing is certain...you won't have to search long for something to do in Breckenridge. With a new ski season quickly approaching, the town is getting ready to show you the time of your life. All you have to do is show up.
